Just got it in today. Very disappointed. You have to be very careful how you line the lid up or it will come loose and the can will fall. I tried several different cans with same result. Difficult to line up. Takes to much time. Yes the whole top is plastic not stainless steel. Not worth the extra money. Some cheaper ones work much better. Shame on you Amazon for continuing to sell this product with a almost 50 percent fail rate. Wish I would have read the reveiws. Shouldn't have to be so precise lignin it up. My cheaper one all you had to do is set it up there in place and push the lever down and wait for it to stop. And it lasted six years.

This is the second one of these I've tried this week. I had high hopes for this one just like the last one.At first I thought I'd found the one, as all seemed to be going well: I put the can in, pressed down the lever, it grabbed the can and pierced the lid easily, and it started opening the can. Then it finished its rotation and, in what I can only assume was a moment of open defiance, it not only unceremoniously dropped the open can, it spit the lid off its magnetic lid-doodad for good measure right onto the floor.I would have laughed at its impeccable comedic timing if I wasn't opening a can of tuna and its stinky, fishy contents became instantly dispersed all over a two-foot radius of my kitchen (and myself). If you'll kindly reference the attached photo you will see the literal results. Off-camera the tuna juice is spilled all over and dripping down the side and under the sink. As I said, no.It boggles my mind that designing a high-performance product (or just one that performs its basic functions, you know, *at all*) based on a tech they nailed down before I was born (and I'm 40!) seems to be beyond these modern appliance company's *current* abilities. Sadly, though, it is seeming more and more likely that is, indeed, the case.

I already had the same Cuisinart can opener and had purchased it a few years ago. Eventually it became problematic. It would start to open a can and then stop. I would keep trying to open cans by doing a small amount at a time but frequently would end up pulling out a manual one to open my cans. I figured the motor was worn out. I ordered a new one. Right after ordering it, I read online reviews that many people had the same issue. When my new one arrived, I was optimistic it would work. Unfortunately, the very FIRST can I tried to open, it didn't work. It punctured the can and moved very slightly and I could not get it to continue. Pulled the can off and put it back on several times but the opener refused to do its job. Fortunately, the shipping box was still on my counter and I promptly returned it the next day. Cuisinart, can your engineers not figure this out???

The "refurbished" unit is junk! It either trips my GFI plug or it runs endlessly spins its wheels without actually opening the can. It has never successfully opened a single can for me. Beach Cameras return policy is such that I have to pay shipping, in prisintine packaging to send it back to them.

We purchase the best products we can afford or find in the sea of progressively more inferior higher priced products. We have several Cuisinart products and generally they operate as advertised and what you associate from the Cuisinart brand. This is a good product as noted by the 5 stars but not great. WHY with all the other apparently top quality parts did they use PLASTIC for the cap? It operates alright, opens cans as expected and seems more powerful compared to others we considered. Still and all the PLASTIC causes one to wonder what other cheap breakable parts are hidden within???????????????

As others have mentioned, the plastic parts that engage the lever arm with the main body of the opener can be a problem and in my opinion are a design flaw. My opener worked ok for the first dozen or so cans, but then the lever arm loosened enough that it would sometimes fail to trigger the switch to turn on the opener. I can force the darn thing to work by unnaturally pulling down while pushing inward on the lever but this shouldn't be necessary. The can lids are now also not always completely cut off the can. This is the second one of these openers that I have owned and will be the last. The first one purchased several years ago had a different problem associated with the lever arm, cutter blade and magnet. I chalked that up to quality control problems in "offshore" manufacturing, but there has now been more than ample time to correct all problems. In the center of the photo, the small round dome attached to the main body of the opener is the on/off switch that needs to be depressed by the lever arm as the lever swings down to lock in the can. As shown, there is a now gap between the lever arm and the switch.

I haven't had an electric can opener in years, but my arthritis became too severe to use a hand held can opener. I studied the ones Amazon offers and decided this was the one for me. I am so glad I purchased! Easy to use, clean cutting (no metal shavings inside the cans), easy to clean (usually doesn't require cleaning). Love this can opener, and highly recommend to anyone with arthritis looking to buy! Sure makes my time in the kitchen a lot easier. I don't believe you will be disappointed.

Simply doesn't work. The gear that is supposed grab a a can and spin the can, simply doesn't grasp the can. As a result, the gear spins, the can doesn't and to open a can you need to manually rotate the can. Its a horrible design. I am shocked this is sold by Cuisinart, and even more shocked that from a quality assurance stand point something like this is put into production and worse, shipped to customers. Repeat..DOES NOT WORK.I see now I am outside my return window which stinks for me. I will try anyway to return and get my money back..
