A tea box needs to do 3 things: hold tea, open, and close. This holds tea, and the lid opens so that you can get to the tea when you need it. However, if you use the box in the way most people would, the lid does not close. The frame around the glass is so wide that it infringes on the openings meant for the tea and doesn’t leave enough depth for the height of the tea bags. The lid ends up resting on top of the tea bags instead of closing completely. The workaround means you can only completely fill 2 of the 8 sections, and for the 4 on the ends (2 each on the right and left-hand sides), you not only have to leave the section partially empty, but also turn the tea bags 90 degrees from the way you’d normally store them, which is annoying. Photos show what I mean. If this were a more expensive item, I would have rated it one or two stars because of this problem, but because it’s so inexpensive I was more forgiving. Some people might not mind the quirky way of using it if it means saving some decent cash over pricier options, but if quality is vitally important to you, this isn’t your tea box. I probably won’t bother to replace it until it breaks or I move, but if I were making the purchase over again I’d get something else.

I was really excited about this Oceanstar Bamboo Tea Box. The size of the storage compartments fit 12-14 teabags perfectly. However, the box smells awful!!! I let it air out for a couple of days before putting my tea in it. After 3 days, I got impatient and loaded it with my teas - It made my tea smell like toxic chemicals. I have had this tea box for several weeks now and the chemical odor is still very present. I am very disappointed in this product and question the safety of materials used in its construction. Food ware is not supposed to smell like this.There is a sticker on the base of the box next to the branded "Oceanstar - designed in the USA, made in China". The sticker reads, "CARB 93120 Compliant for Formaldehyde". Whatever finish, resin, or adhesive that was used for this wooden box, it is absolutely not suitable for food. Find another tea box to purchase.

Made with formaldehyde (embalming fluid)There's nothing wrong with the quality. I liked this tea box so much I bought 2, however on the second box (that I have never even used) I noticed a very strong chemical odor and did not remember that when I purchased this same box 3 years ago. The second box came with a slip of paper stating that there is formaldehyde used in the making of this box and that "known to the state of California to cause cancer..." If I knew that, I would not have purchased either box. Oh and the tea has to be turned on the side to fit. But that's irrelevant since this is unsafe to use. I guess I have to toss out all my tea.

Fits roughly 10 to 12 standard teabags. The clear top piece is plastic and flexible so I wouldn't stack anything heavy on top of it. The purduct is otherwise Sturdy and well made. The individual pockets are solid bamboo and stay perfectly in place as the are glued and grooved together.
